Yellowstone National Park

After our paddling trip to Grand Teton National Park, we made our way North to Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone is not a paddling story for us, but we wanted to share a photo gallery from our exploration of the park. Visiting with a dog limits what you are able to do. Dogs are not allowed in the backcountry or on hiking trails. Our visit within the park was limited to the major tourist attractions.

Our Park Highlights:

Grand Prismatic Spring: A must-see. We took turns walking along the Grand Prismatic Spring boardwalk (No Dogs Allowed). The rainbow bands of colors are captivating. There is a hike that allows you to see the hot spring from above, but with the dog in tow we opted for the shorter walk and ground level view.

All the other hot springs: There are overviews and lookouts galore. Some of the boardwalk hikes bring you around hot springs with gorgeous colors and sometimes clear depths

The Waterfalls: Some of our favorites were the Lower Yellowstone and Gibbon Falls. It’s a short walk to see both of these. Again, due to pet limitations we did not hike through the backcountry. We took turns on these shorter hikes while the other waited with Rigby in the parking lot.

The bison: For Amanda, this trip was her first encounter with bison. In Grand Teton and Yellowstone we drove by bison and often had to stop the car to wait for them to cross in front or alongside us.

Mammoth Hot Springs: If you venture North in the park, you can hike the multi-level Mammoth Hot Springs. The travertine terraces are a sight to see. Our campsite was located close to this attraction. If you’re staying in the southern part of the park, it’s worth the drive.
